The lead contractor in the "Across The Top" freeway project on Interstate 80 in Sacramento has backed out, citing financial difficulties.
Dennis Keaton with Caltrans says Bay Cities construction will take over the project.
"What will more than likely happen is that you have sub-contractors that are currently working on the project that will just roll over to reporting to Bay Cities as the prime contractor and having the final say-so as to what's happening on the project," explains Keaton.
CC Myers Inc. is the company that pulled out of the project.
Caltrans pays only for work already completed and Keaton says the work by CC Myers Inc. has been satisfactory since a section of concrete failed tests and was replaced two years ago.
The company has not been owned by CC Myers for five years.
