Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins and forward Rudy Gay are a step closer to playing in the Olympics this summer in Rio de Janeiro.
The NBA stars were among 30 players selected today as finalists for the U.S. basketball team by USA Basketball. The final 12-player roster will be announced later this year.
The U.S. team will attempt to win a third straight gold medal.
Other finalists include Stephen Curry and Harrison Barnes of the Golden State Warriors and LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Cousins and Gay were members of the 2014 USA World Cup Team that finished 9-0 and won gold in Spain. Gay also earned a gold medal with the 2010 USA World Championship squad that went 9-0 in Istanbul, Turkey.
The 2016 USA coaching staff will be led by Mike Krzyzewski of Duke University.
