Wind, Flood Advisories In Effect For Multiple Counties

UPDATE 8:45 a.m.: The National Weather Service in Sacramento says Tuesday's heavy rains may cause urban and small stream flooding in the region. 

"The last three or four days we've had several inches of rain or more, depending on where you're at," says Jason Clapp with National Weather Service. "And now we're adding more today. So it's just, the grounds have kind of been saturating up a little bit. So we're anticipating just getting more nuisance flooding.

A flood advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. Tuesday. There's also a wind advisory in effect for possible power outages and tree damage, until 1 p.m., with southerly gusts up to 50 miles an hour.

Tuesday's weather has also made of a tough morning commute. But the storm is helping with rain totals. 

"We just hit over 4 inches for the month," says Clapp. "And our average, normal is only 3.97. And we've added almost two-tenths. We've had measurable rain 15 of the 19 days so far in January."

Original Post: The Sacramento region is getting pelted this morning with another round of heavy rain.

Jason Clapp with the National Weather Service in Sacramento says the storm has prompted the agency to issue an advisory. 

"We call them urban and small stream flood advisory which is small little streams may start flooding a little bit, or the streets, drains clog up and you just get flooding on some roadways,” says Clapp. “It's not a major river flooding or anything like that."

The flood advisory is in effect until 4 pm today. A wind advisory is also in effect with southerly gusts up to 50 miles an hour and possible power outages and tree damage. The wind is expected to die-down by early afternoon.

This morning's heavy rain the Sacramento region may be making for a tough commute. But it's helping with rain totals. Clapp says Sacramento is already above normal for the month of January.

"We just hit over 4 inches for the month,” says Clapp. And our average, normal is only 3.97. And we've added almost two-tenths. We've had measurable rain 15 of the 19 days so far in January."

Forecasters say Sacramento could get between .5 to .75 inches of new rain today.
