(AP) - Reno and Washoe County have agreed to settle their longstanding lawsuit over the splitting of the community's fire agencies.
Reno initiated the lawsuit over unresolved costs from the 2012 split of the agencies. Washoe County commissioners, acting as the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District board, approved the settlement agreement Tuesday. The Reno City Council will vote on it Wednesday.
Reno claimed the district owed the city more than $850,000 from the 2012 deconsolidation. In response, the district filed a countersuit claiming Reno owed more than $1 million for damaged equipment and unresolved costs after the divorce.
Under the settlement, both sides have agreed to drop financial claims against the other and the district will pay back Workers Compensation money it began withholding when Reno filed suit.
