(AP) - U.S. Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein say they will seek federal review of an ongoing leak of natural gas from a utility's underground storage site that has forced thousands of people to leave nearby Los Angeles neighborhoods.
The California Democrats plan to introduce an amendment to energy legislation currently on the Senate floor.
The amendment would direct Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz to lead a review of the cause and response to the leak at Southern California Gas Co.'s Aliso Canyon site. Gas has been spewing for three months.
Boxer says in a statement Friday that it's been frustrating to watch the crisis unfold.
Feinstein says they have a responsibility to not only address the leak but to ensure that nothing like it happens again.
