The California Faculty Association has set dates for a possible strike at 23 California State University campuses.
The Association represents 26,000 employees on CSU campuses.
"We’ve said all along that we don’t want to strike, but we will if we have to," said Dr. Jennifer Eagan, CFA President and Professor at Cal State East Bay.
In a statement, the California State University says it remains committed to reaching a resolution:
"Campuses are preparing for the possibility of a strike. If a strike occurs, campuses intend to remain open. Many classes will be offered, and students should check with their instructors regarding the status of their classes. The strike should not interfere with students being able to complete their semester and quarter courses and graduate on time."
Contract negotiations between the CFA and the California State University system have reached an impasse.
The CFA wants a 5 percent general salary increase for all faculty.
CSU has offered 2 percent.
Potential strike dates are April 13-15 and April 18-19.
The CFA voted in October to authorize a strike if negotiations fail.
The salary talks started in May 2014.
