(AP) - Skiers at a resort west of Lake Tahoe can have their experience recorded via drone as part of a unique exemption from the Federal Aviation Administration.
KTVN-TV in Reno, Nevada, reports (http://bit.ly/2134ILU) Cape Productions is the first in the country to be allowed by the FAA to fly within 500 feet of people. The company first set up at Squaw Valley Ski Resort in Olympic Valley, California, and plans to expand to Homewood Ski Resort.
The FAA regulates commercial drones and requires specific safety measures, like a restriction against night flights. Drone operators must be pilots certified by the FAA.
Cape Productions Deputy of Operations Kabe Termes says FAA flight instructors have trained drone operators in handling emergency situations and aerodynamics.
The professional video service starts at $99.
