The online site WalletHub ranked 100 cities based on the number of women-owned businesses, working moms, and gender inequality.
The Stockton-Lodi area ranked second in California in a national study of cities most friendly to female entrepreneurs. The area also had the highest percentage of growth for women-owned businesses in the nation.
Amongst cities in California, Fresno was first, followed by Stockton, and Sacramento came in 6th.
Susan Cruz is the owner of Cruz Integrated in Stockton, which provides marketing consulting and commercial fundraising for non-profits. She says female entrepreneurs support each other and the opportunities are great.
"Everything from multilevel marketing businesses," says Cruz. "To multimillion dollar businesses and I think women should step out and get out there and open a business and give it a try."
Measured against cities all over the country, Stockton ranked 34th and Sacramento fell to 80th.
