St. Patrick's Day celebrations begin this weekend and we've rounded up a list of events to help you plan your fun. Some are for adults, but you'll find many family-friendly things to do as well.
St. Patrick's Day Glow in the Dark Crafts - Del Paso Heights
Thursday March 17 and Saturday March 19, all day
You can show off your St. Patrick's Day Spirit, in any lighting conditions, and join the Del Paso Heights staff and our resident crafting experts the Krafty Kats in making glow-in-the-dark St. Patrick's Day decorations. The crafting materials will be available all day on Thursday and Saturday.
St. Patrick's Day Celebration On The River - Delta King Riverboat
Thursday March 17, 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Celebrate the green with Cahersiveen on the river in Old Sacramento on St. Patrick’s Day! Bring your friends and family, or go solo for a truly traditional Irish hooley. You’ll feel right at home!
St. Patrick's Day Celebration: The Pikeys and Bobby and The Kennedys - Midtown
Thursday, Mar 17, 3 p.m. - 11 p.m.
You can join Fox and Goose for their 41st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration. Traditional Irish food reigns with a delicious assortment of your festive favorites and an assortment of beer on draft.
Bobby and The Kennedys will open the evening with a traditional, yet raucous and jig-worthy, Irish set. Headlining the party is Sacramento favorite, The Pikeys. They'll bring their infamous, Celtic punk style to keep you moving all night long. Feel free to join in the fun with the returning Irish folk sing-a-long crowd in between bands and enjoy some beloved Irish bagpipers as they make their annual appearance to liven that Irish spirit.
Altan & Lúnasa with Tim O’Brien: A St. Patrick’s Day Celebration
Thursday, March 17, 7 pm.
This is an annual showcase of Irish musicians. Altan performs traditional music from northern Ireland and Lunasa plays its unique blend of flute, pipe and fiddle with bass and guitar. American bluegrass musician Tim O’Brien will join the ensemble. There will also be a free performance by Celtic-Americana rock band One Eyed Reilly as well as free beer tastings with brews from Track 7, Heretic and Lagunitas.
St. Patrick's Day At The Boxing Donkey
Thursday, March 17th, 6 a.m.
The Boxing Donkey opens at 6 a.m. with live music starting at 12 p.m. You can enjoy the extended beer garden and an Irish menu including corned beef/calcannon, corned beef tacos, corned beef nachos and clam chowder. You can even get your photo taken with a live donkey.
St. Patrick's Day Pub Party
Thursday, March 17, 9 a.m.
The sound of California Pipes and Drums will fill the air at de Vere's Irish Pub on St. Patrick's Day. And the photo booths will be going strong. You can come down for all your St. Patrick's Day fun.
No Green for Green Storytelling Hike - Deer Creek Hills
Saturday March 19, 9a.m. -1 p.m.
This escorted hike is offered to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day at Deer Creek Hills with the El Dorado Storytelling Guild. Celebrate the color green with the Irish spirit at Deer Creek Hills. This event is a docent-led hike that will roam the gently rolling, grassy green hills, to take in the beauty of what gifts Spring will bring. Be sure to keep an eye open for the lucky four leaf clover.
Note: This escorted hike is 4-6 miles round-trip. This is a "no drop hike" so no one will be left behind.
Murphys Irish Day - Murphys, CA
March 19, Sat 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
One of the premiere annual events in the Mother Lode is Murphys Irish Day. Each year on the third Saturday in March, thousands of people from Northern California and beyond gather in the historic gold rush town of Murphys to honor its Celtic heritage and to celebrate as only the Irish can. Its picturesque Main Street is filled with booths offering handcrafted items, original art, photographs, tasty food, wine, and other beverages.
