Revised UC Intolerance Proposal Addresses Anti-Zionism

(AP) - The University of California has revised a proposed policy on intolerance to include "anti-Zionism" and antisemitism as forms of discrimination that won't be tolerated on UC's 10 campuses.

The draft document released Tuesday was applauded by Jewish organizations that had demanded more be done to protect students against anti-Semitism after several high-profile incidents, including one in which swastikas were spray-painted on a Jewish fraternity house.

Groups critical of Israel's treatment of Palestinians say the statement prepared by a working group could be used to silence them.

A version of the measure presented last year was rejected by Jewish groups who said it didn't go far enough to address antisemitism on campuses.

The UC Board of Regents is scheduled to vote on the proposed "Statement of Principles Against Intolerance" at its meeting on March 23 in San Francisco.
