(AP) - California State University officials and the union that represents campus faculty members are expressing optimism they will be able to reach a salary agreement that would prevent a five-day strike starting next week.
The California Faculty Association said Wednesday that union and university negotiators have resumed talks and hope to announce a settlement to their long-running pay dispute on Friday.
The faculty association has scheduled a strike for April 13-15 and April 18-19 at all 23 Cal State campuses unless the system before then increases the size of the pay raises the union's 26,000 members will receive this school year.
The union has been seeking a 5 percent salary increase, while the university has offered 2 percent.
CSU officials and union leaders agreed Wednesday not to publicly discuss the negotiations or walkout plans for 48 hours.
