People in Amador and Calaveras counties are being tested for measles after a Nevada County child infected with the disease recently traveled through the area.
Laurel Miranda lives in the Amador County town of Pine Grove. Last week, Miranda found out that she hade eaten at the same restaurant in Jackson where officials say the child with measles had eaten. Miranda decided to get tested.
"There was a bunch of emotions here for the first 24 hours," says Miranda. "And then relief when she called and said 'you're fine.' I was like 'oh, thank God.'"
Miranda works as a bus driver transporting kids with compromised immune systems and was worried that she might've exposed the children to the measles.
"I felt like I was Typhoid Annie because I could be, you know, anybody around me could have gotten sick too," says Miranda.
Amador and Calaveras county health officials say residents exposed to the infected Nevada County child have tested negative for measles.
Health officials say the unvaccinated child developed the disease after returning to California from traveling overseas.
