One man is dead and two Sacramento Police officers are under investigation following a shooting.
According to Police Sergeant Bryce Heinlein, officers responded to the 7600 block of Prescott Way off Center Parkway at 8:24 a.m.
A person who lives in the area had called to report someone peering through windows in the neighborhood.
Heinlein says the officers found the man and put him in the back of a patrol car while they began an investigation.
He also says, "At that point the subject in the backseat of the vehicle began thrashing and kicking at the windows and doors."
Officers say the man forced his way out of the patrol car when they opened the door to check on him.
Heinlein says the man began running through backyards and the officers followed. The man was able to lose the officers at one point.
"The subject reappeared from behind a vehicle with two knives," says Heinlein. At that point he verbally challenged the officers and at that point the officers fired their weapons."
Heinlein says the homicide detectives will determine if the officers followed protocol and if the shooting was justified.
They were not injured.
