An attempted carjacking in Stockton this morning turned deadly when police shot one suspect while two others escaped.
Police officers were patrolling in the area of Knickerbocker and West Lane in North Stockton just before 9 in the morning.
They came across three men walking and when they approached them, the men took off running.
Stockton Police Officer Joe Silva says one of them tried to carjack a moving car being driven by a woman.
“The suspect running from them, diving into a vehicle that was going across the intersection, he was in the driver’s seat, they had to make that split second decision," says Silva. "So that’s why one officer fearing for her safety fired his weapon.”
According to Silva, the scene is being investigated by several different agencies since it was an officer-involved shooting and they are trying to determine if the deceased suspect was armed.
