Police say the death of a woman found in the American River this morning near Sacramento State is being treated as a homicide.
Chris Harvey with the Sacramento Fire Department says someone walking along the levee near the H Street Bridge called 911 around 10:20 a.m. after spotting the body in the river.
"Our boat eight was already in the river doing some training. They were able to get over there pretty quickly," says Harvey. "They did find a female victim face down in the water. She was not a viable patient, they were not able to do any kind of advance life support. It was just recovery mode at that point and they were able to get her over to shore."
Police say the body wasn't consistent with a typical drowning victim, including the fact the victim was fully clothed.
The woman hasn't been identified. Sacramento police say they're still trying to determine how long she had been in the water.
