Sacramento's Big Day of Giving, or Big DOG, came to a close Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock.
The 24-hour fundraising day was extended 15 hours due to a technical problem with the web site yesterday.
Shirlee Tully is the Chief Marketing Officer for the Sacramento Region Foundation. It coordinated nonprofits for the event.
“When the site was down we encouraged donors to call non profits directly and either through their websites or by credit card by phone,” says Tully. “So we’re going to be tallying all those offline donations and adding them to the total at bigdayofgiving.org.”
So far 570 charities have raised $4.6 million. A final tally should be posted at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Last year 529 nonprofits took in $5.6 in 24 hours.
