Stockton Police and other law enforcement agencies made a major sweep of criminals and guns as the city faces a major rise in homicides and shootings in the city. More than 50 alleged gang members were taken off the street on Wednesday.
The gang sweep dubbed “Operation Bloodline” took months of investigation. The crackdown focused on two criminal streets gangs, the Westside Bloods and the Taliban.
According to Stockton Police Chief Eric Jones, those gangs share much of the blame for many of the shootings, homicides and other crimes.
Jones says, “During the investigation itself, several attempted murders and armed robberies were solved or circumvented and in 2 separate homicide cases arrests were made.”
San Joaquin County District Attorney Tori Verber-Salazar says gang sweeps like this have seen a 95 percent conviction rate.
She says, “We’re grateful that we can tell this neighborhood that their children can play outside, that you can live in a community free of fear of those terrors and harm that these people cause.”
Police made 52 arrests, seized 22 firearms and 41 pounds of marijuana.
