Residents in Lodi and the Lake Tahoe area are preparing for bicyclists in the Amgen Tour Of California to race through Thursday morning.
Stage Five of the men's race starts in Lodi and will finish in South Lake Tahoe. From Lodi, cyclists will follow a 132-mile route along State Routes 88 and 89 before using surface streets to finish before 4 p.m. at Heavenly Valley in South Lake Tahoe.
The California Highway Patrol will be closing intersections in advance of the peloton arriving and then releasing traffic after all the riders and their support vehicles have traveled through.
Meanwhile, the women's event of the tour will also kick off Thursday with a 74-mile loop around Lake Tahoe with a start and end at Heavenly Mountain Resort.
As the cyclists travel through U.S. Highway 50 and along State Highways 89 and 28, CHP officers will close off intersections about 10 to 15 minutes in advance of the peloton arriving. The women's race starts at 11 a.m. and should end at 2 p.m.
