Spring is in the air and the grass is growing and with that growing grass comes lawn mower fumes. The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District is rolling out a new program to clean up lawn care, by offering to replace old gas powered lawnmowers with a new zero emission electric mower.
Valley residents from San Joaquin County to Bakersfield can turn in their old mowers and get a rebate of up to half the cost of a new electric mower.
Anthony Presto is with the Air District. He says it’s a small step in cleaning up the air, but every bit counts.
“One lawnmower being equivalent to 12 cars is not the biggest contribution in the world but anytime anybody in the San Joaquin Valley can do anything to reduce the air pollution it’s always an improvement to air quality,” Presto says.
Presto says it’s first-come, first-served and people can download an application on the district’s website. Between 750 and 1,200 rebates are expected to be given out this year.
