Starting June 8, you must be 21 years old to purchase tobacco products in California.
A new law signed by Governor Jerry Brown last month raises the tobacco age from 18 to 21 – although active-duty military are exempted.
E-cigarettes are also subject to the new age limit.
Several other anti-tobacco laws also take effect today, including new regulations on e-cigarettes and additional limits on smoking in the workplace.
