UPDATE: 9:15 p.m.: Power has been restored to all customers, according to SMUD.
More than 78,000 customers were without power Thursday night in Citrus Heights, Orangevale, Rancho Cordova and parts of Folsom and Carmichael.
SMUD says the cause of the outage was an offline substation in Orangevale.
UPDATE 9:08: SMUD says crews have restored power for another 20,000 customers. About 16,000 are still experiencing an outage.
UPDATE 9:05 p.m.: SMUD says crews have restored power for another 20,000 customers. About 35,000 are still experiencing an outage.
UPDATE 8:57 p.m.: Crews have restored power to 25,000 customers in the Citrus Heights area. About 53,000 more are still without power.
Original Post: An offline substation has caused more than 78,000 customers to be without power in the Citrus Heights area Thursday evening, according to SMUD.
The outage is affecting customers in Orangevale, Rancho Cordova and areas of Folsom and Carmichael.
The offline substation is located in Orangevale.
