Folsom's Rainbow Bridge is closed Monday for major roadwork. The work is expected to keep the bridge closed until Friday at 5 p.m.
Bryan Reed is an associate engineer with the city of Folsom. He says there will be detours in place, but the 25,000 people who use the span daily will face delays.
“We know it's quite an inconvenience for everybody but we're going to try to get in and out as fast as possible and maintain our beautiful bridge,” says Reed.
Reed says the work, which includes bridge resurfacing, barrier rail repairs and fixing road pavement, should provide a smoother and safer drive for motorists. He says they're also working on ways to remove the graffiti from the bridge.
The $1.1 million project is funded mostly by a federal grant administered by a Caltrans preventative maintenance program.
