Sacramento Sheriff’s Homicide detectives arrested 23-year-old Fredrick Marshall of Sacramento on Thursday. He's charged with killing 19-year-old Deston Garrett two weeks earlier at the home Garrett shared with his family.
Sheriff's dispatch received a 911 call at about 9:00 p.m. June 9th regarding gunshots in the 3900 block of 45th Street in South Sacramento.
Garrett was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. He died two days later.
The homicide investigators believe Garrett and Marshall argued before Marshall pulled out a handgun and fired.
Marshall was arrested for voluntary manslaughter and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. He is being held on $100,000 bail.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court on Monday.
Family and friends of Garrett held a memorial for him Thursday at Sac High.
According to the Sacramento Bee, Garrett had recently transferred to an accelerated-learning curriculum in order to graduate on time this spring.
