More than 600 growers have registered as commercial marijuana farms in Calaveras County.
Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. is the deadline for growers to sign up and pay a $5,000 registration fee.
Caz Tomaszewski, head of the Calaveras Cannabis Alliance, says this will bring the industry out of the shadows.
“It gives us a chance to both distinguish ourselves from the bad guys, the criminal operators, also gives us a chance to contribute via our registration fees and tax dollars and with the projected registration of around 700 commercial growers, the tax income to the county could be 10-20 million.”
After the deadline, unregistered marijuana farms will be subject to shut down and their marijuana could be confiscated.
