In our weekly conversation with the Sacramento Business Journal's Social Engagement Manager Sonya Sorich we hear about changes in both the local food delivery and craft beer scenes. Sorichalso tells us about the Sacramento lighting and furniture company Lumens' acquisition by a Walnut Creek-based business.
In beer-business news, two new beer-related establishments are set to open in town. The most recent state tax data show beer production in the four-county Sacramento area has doubled since October 2014. Big Sexy Brewing Company is set to open in early August and Bru Co is scheduled to open in October.
"It shows that the appetite is still very strong for these beer-related businesses."
This week saw a few changes to the food delivery landscape, with the addition of a new service and another company taking a break.
"San Francisco-based DoorDash opted for an interesting strategy: launching in the suburbs. Competitors such as Caviar and Postmates have focused on downtown and midtown," says Sorich. "FoodJets debuted last year, was known for its jet-themed delivery vehicles. The company previously delivered pre-packaged restaurant meals, generally in less than 10 minutes. Now, FoodJets is changing its business model and will return in September. Changes include abandoning the jet-themed cars and pre-packaged meals. Drivers will use their own cars and pick up food directly from restaurants."
Sorich says as the food delivery market gets more crowded we may see more and more businesses tweaking their models to gain market share.
