(AP) - Police arrested a man suspected of shooting at an officer trapped in her wrecked patrol SUV after a head-on collision.
Police say the man was arrested by SWAT team members early Thursday morning in Stockton after refusing to surrender for several hours. Stockton Police say the man holed up with three young children when officers arrived Wednesday night to arrest him. None of the children were harmed during the standoff and arrest.
Police didn't release the suspect's name or age.
The accident occurred when the Oakland Police sergeant's SUV slammed head on with another SUV Saturday night.
Police say the suspect happened upon the accident moments later and fired a shot at the sergeant, missing her.
The sergeant was treated for injuries sustained in the collision.
