The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office says Stockton Mayor Anthony Silva is refusing to answer questions regarding a gun used in the killing of 13-year-old boy last year, which had previously belonged to the mayor.
San Joaquin County Deputy District Attorney Robert Himmelblau says investigators from his office tried to speak to Mayor Silva two weeks ago but said Silva wouldn’t cooperate.
The mayor’s attorney Mark Reichel says the district attorney’s office has a grudge against Silva and he only asked that his lawyer be present.
“Seems like they really want him somewhere where it’s just them and him, if there’s a witness around which would be me, they’re not happy about that.”
Himmelblau declined to talk on tape but said investigators are trying to determine when Silva realized the gun was missing and when he reported it.
Attorney Reichel says Silva is willing to cooperate but doesn’t know who was responsible.
“Likely not in a million years would he know who was involved in a million years he would have no idea I don’t think he had any idea who took the gun.”
Himmelblau says the gun was recovered in June.
