Sacramento based American Red Cross chapter is reaching out for donations and supplying volunteers to send Shelter, food, and other supplies to fire victims in Lake County and to Louisiana flood victims.
In Lake County, fire has forced thousands to evacuate and 175 homes and businesses have gone up in flames.
In Louisiana 4 trillion gallons of rain turned into floodwaters that have inundated 80,000 homes and businesses.
Red Cross Gold Country CEO Gary Strong says donors have stepped up and volunteers are staffing shelters in both locations.
“The Louisiana floods, as large as they are, with the need as big as it is, we’ve deployed some people from our region as well, you know less than 10 people at this point, but there are still more needs out there, so this could grow,” says Strong.
He also says a local telethon is helping to raise funds.
“We’re just happy to get any contributions we can get, people are stepping up," says Strong. "They are seeing the attention it’s getting in the media and that’s causing people to be helpful.”
