Teachers in Yuba City plan to begin striking Thursday in a dispute with the school district over pay.
The Yuba City Teachers Association says it delivered notice Tuesday that the district’s 700 public school teachers will go on strike.
The labor negotiations began in September of last year, but have not progressed much.
The union wants a 13 percent raise, which it says will bring teachers to the state average. The district says that would gut schools.
It says it offered a 3.5 percent increase for the previous school year, but reduced that offer to 2 percent based on the recommendation of a state panel and then withdrew the offer.
