Field Poll: Strong Support For Proposition 57, Proposition 55

A new Field Poll shows overwhelming support for a proposition to reform prison sentencing and another that would extend a temporary tax on the state's wealthy residents.

A measure to increase the state's tobacco tax was favored by a slimmer margin. Proposition 55 would extend by another 12 years a temporary tax on those earning more than $250,000 dollars per year with money going to education and in some years healthcare. It's favored by 60 percent of likely voters, according to the Field Poll.

Proposition 57 also is supported by 60 percent of those questioned. The proposition is Governor's Brown's plan to offer new parole opportunities to non-violent offenders.

Meanwhile, Proposition 56, which would increase the tobacco tax by $2 per pack is supported by 53 percent of likely voters.
