Even though Whole Foods has called off plans for a midtown Sacramento store near L and 21st streets, the company behind the development, Pappas Investments, says the project continues - with or without Whole Foods.
The Sacramento Business Journal's Digital Editor Sonya Sorich says the development is envisioned as a mixed-use project with parking and residential units, along with a store.
"The first phase of the project, which is a new parking structure to replace the garage now located on the site of the planned mixed-use building, will move forward," says Sorich. "And the developer said it is evaluating options for phase two."
Whole Foods attributed its decision to abandon the 21st and L midtown site on "timing challenges with the landlord." The grocery chain says it's still committed to finding another Sacramento site.
Sorich also has news about Elk Grove moving closer to a new casino deal...the unending debate over how ambitious the Convention Center renovation should be...and an Italian restaurant in Roseville expanding to Placerville.
