Stockton Police officers on the streets are upgrading their body cameras to record incidents, in some cases, before they happen.
The new cameras are the latest technology that shines the light on officer involved shootings.
Stockton police started wearing body cameras last year.
The cameras attached to their uniforms start the recording when the officer pushes a button.
But now new cameras on order have a feature that when the button is pushed, the camera captures the action 30 seconds before it’s activated because it’s constantly recording.
Stockton Police Chief Eric Jones says those precious seconds can make an immense difference.
“Incidents unroll very quickly," Jones says. "Or the officer is under immense amount of stress and when they press the button there will that 30 seconds of video of what occurred before they press the button and we just think that’s very important.”
Jones says 200 cameras at a cost of $250,000 will be worn by officers within the next few months.
