The federal Drug Enforcement Agency will hold its National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Saturday, Oct. 22.
Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. you can dispose of unused and unwanted prescription medications at one of 4,700 collection sites nationwide.
According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans over the age of 12 abuse prescription drugs.
In April, collection sites received 893,000 pounds of medications nationwide.
In Northern California and the Central Valley, the previous 11 take-back events collected 36,000 pounds of unused medication.
The service is free of charge, with no questions asked.
