(AP) - A day after Clark County confirmed its first flu-related death of the season in the Las Vegas-area, Washoe County health officials reported their first flu fatality in northern Nevada.
The victim was identified Thursday only as a middle-aged person under the age of 60 who contracted Influenza A - H1N1. Health officials say other factors contributed to the death.
The Southern Nevada Health District said the person who died in Clark County was over the age of 65 and had been hospitalized.
Washoe County District Health Officer Kevin Dick said the flu season typically peeks December through February. He said in a statement Thursday having a death so early in the season should remind everyone influenza is a serious virus. He says the best way to avoid the flu is to get a flu shot.
