UPDATE 5:40 p.m. : A man shot by two CHP officers in North Sacramento Friday afternoon has died. The Sacramento Sheriff's Department says the man had pointed his gun at officers after they confronted him on Date Avenue south of Madison Avenue, not far from a CHP office. The Sheriff's Department says the confrontation came after the man was observed by a CHP officer walking down the street holding a gun. The man has not been identified.
The CHP officers involved in the shooting are 20-year and 8-year veterans of the department. The shooting will be investigated by the Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau since it happened in an unincorporated area of Sacramento County. Once the investigation is complete it will be forwarded to the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office for independent review.
ORIGINAL: The Sacramento Sheriff's Department is investigating the shooting of a suspect by a CHP officer. The shooting occurred in the area of Date Avenue and Tyler Street, just off Madison Avenue and down the street from a CHP office.
No officers were injured. There's no word on the condition of the suspect. The Sheriff's Department isn't releasing any information right now about what led up to the shooting.
