(AP) - Investigators say they found four people dead after responding to a house fire in Northern California.
The Modesto Bee reported Wednesday that detectives with the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office are investigating the cause. The fire happened late Tuesday at a modular home south of Modesto.
Authorities say that inside the home they found the remains of two males and two females. No names or ages have been released.
Neighbor Mike Tubera tells the newspaper that an explosion woke him up; he ran outside and saw flames shooting 40 feet into the air.
He says an elderly couple lived in the home with their daughter and her two young children.
Autopsies on the victims are scheduled for Monday.
