The Internet Movie Database, IMDb.com, is suing the state of California.
The company publishes information about movies and their casts and crews. It filed a lawsuit this month arguing a new state law would infringe free speech rights by forcing it to remove the ages of some performers.
"This law unfairly targets IMDb.com (which appears to be the only public site impacted by the law) and forces IMDb to suppress factual information from public view," attorneys write in the filing.
It asks a federal court to block the law’s implementation.
The Screen Actors’ Guild sponsored the legislation, which allows actors to request removal of their ages, arguing it will combat age discrimination in Hollywood.
Without action, the law would go into effect January 1st.
