Recent storms have brought rain to the valley and snow to the mountains. Enough snow has fallen that many ski resorts have opened within the last week.
Heavenly, Northstar, and Kirkwood ski resorts in the Sierra have just begun operating and are now open 7 days a week.
Albeit not all the trails and chair lifts are up and running, there’s still plenty of skiing available.
Kevin Cooper with Vail Resorts, which operates the three resorts, says skiers were ready and eager this past weekend for the season to begin.
“As soon as we started announcing the opening day of the resort, the phone started ringing and a lot of very enthusiastic people to get up on the gondola and get out there in the mountain even though it’s limited terrain, they still had a great time,” says Cooper.
According to Cooper, more snow is needed for full operation.
But he says last year was a great year for skiing with 450 inches and he expects the same will hold true for this year.
