UPDATE 3:40 p.m.: Investigators are releasing more details about the abduction of a Shasta County woman who was found near I-5 in Yolo County on Thanksgiving Day.
Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko says 34-year-old Sherri Papini was abused during her three weeks in captivity, including being burned.
"I will confirm that the suspects did brand her," says Bosenko. "I will not get into the details of where the brand is located on her body, nor what was branded on her, for again, the integrity of the investigation."
Sheriff Bosenko also says Papini went through an extensive interview process with investigators, and describes her as "cooperative and courageous."
Papini said the two women who held her spoke in Spanish throughout most of her captivity and hid their faces.
A sketch artist is using the few facial details provided by Papini to possibly produce an image for investigators.
Bosenko says there is still no motive for the abduction and is not sure whether Papini was a specific target or randomly chosen as she jogged near her home.
ORIGINAL: (AP) - A California sheriff says the abductors of Sherri Papini, who was held captive for three weeks, branded her with a message before she was released.
Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko told "Good Morning America" on Wednesday that the suspects may have been trying to humiliate Papini by cutting off her long blonde hair and branding her.
Bosenko declined to elaborate on the branding, saying only that it was a message, not a symbol.
Papini's husband has said his 34-year-old wife was covered with bruises and burns and was chained at the waist and wrists when she was found along Interstate 5 near Sacramento on Thanksgiving.
The mother of two small children disappeared while jogging Nov. 2 near her home in Redding.
