Twelve acres of vacant land in Natomas could soon be home to a new shopping center.
The Natomas Fountains project would include 116,000 square feet of retail space and will be considered by the Sacramento City Council Tuesday.
"One of the reasons the requires City Council approval is because the developer is asking for a significant land use change to allow for the retail," says Lindsey Alagozian from the City of Sacramento Community Development Department.
The previous developer had planned to put an office building on the land. The property at Gateway Park Boulevard and Truxel Road remained vacant as retail centers opened up around it.
Ethan Conrad Properties says it has already received offers from prospective tenants for more than half of the retail space.
