(AP) - The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for rain, snow and wind that's expected to pound northern Nevada over the next few days.
The agency expects high winds Wednesday night in the Reno and Carson City areas, including gusts over 80 mph around those cities and up to 130 mph on the Sierra ridge.
They issued a flood watch as they expect intense rainfall on Thursday that could quickly raise river levels.
Mountainous areas should get heavy snow, including one to three feet of accumulation above 8,000 feet of elevation and six inches to a foot between 7,000 and 8,000 feet. The heaviest snowfall is set to come between 4 p.m. Thursday and 1 a.m. Friday.
Forecasters are advising people to avoid travel if they can.
