Hundreds of people gathered in Sacramento Friday to celebrate the opening of a park built specifically for the homeless.
The new Friendship Park was funded by the charity Loaves and Fishes to replace its old park.
A ceremonial ribbon was cut at the entrance to a brand new Friendship Park built next to Loaves and Fishes.
Sister Libby Fernandez is Executive Director of Loaves and Fishes.
"This is a new beginning for all of Sacramento. This is a state-of-the-art park for homeless men and women," says Fernandez.
She also says the park will provide the homeless with access to housing assistance and other social services.
People can also get a hot cup of coffee and a shower.
The park is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to mid-afternoon.
