Many employees at UC Davis and the UC Davis Medical Center are striking Tuesday as part of a statewide day of action across all UC campuses.
Thousands of administrative and clerical employees claim UC has yet to offer them a fair wage increase.
UC Davis employees with Teamsters Local 2010 picketed in the rain Tuesday, protesting what they say are unfair labor practices.
Teresa Medina is an administrative assistant with the UC Davis School of Law.
She says the university needs to start taking employees seriously in negotiations.
“It’s enough of coming over and just having nothing to put on the table," says Medina. "Meanwhile, we're all over here, we all have families, we all have to pay rent. And they act like we don’t have to do anything like that.”
UC officials say they have offered an average pay increase of 18 percent over six years and that clerical employees currently earn an average salary of $47,000.
Teamsters representatives say these averages are skewed and that wages should be higher.
