The Stockton Arena is one of the host sites for the NCAA’s Division One Women’s Basketball sweet 16 and Elite 8 rounds in March.
The event will have a huge economic impact on the city.
Stockton will be in the throes of March Madness in the last weekend of March.
The top college women’s teams in the nation will be taking the ball downcourt in the 10,000 seat stadium.
Visit Stockton CEO Wes Rhea says restaurants, shopping, and especially hotels will benefit from the event.
“Already we’re seeing the economic impact when it comes to what hotels are being booked just for the players and the NCAA staff," says Rhea. "We expect that 2,000 room nights around those activities not including folks who will attend.”
Rhea says he expects city businesses could see two million dollars in revenue.
But what he says could be even more important is the positive exposure for the city on national television and from 75 media outlets covering the event.
