A mosque near UC Davis was vandalized over the weekend.
Someone smashed windows at the Davis Islamic Center early Sunday morning, and left strips of bacon on a door handle. Muslims are prohibited from eating pork products.
Davis police are investigating the incident as a hate crime. Surveillance video shows someone who appears to be female breaking the windows and slashing the tires of bicycles parked on the property.
"The swift apprehension and punishment of those responsible for this act of religious intimidation will send the message that the growing Islamophobia we are witnessing in our nation will not be tolerated or ignored," says Basim Elkarra, Executive Director of the Sacramento Valley chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
CAIR-SV is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
