Heavy rains and gusty winds are making for a tough commute throughout Northern California Tuesday morning.
In Davis, northbound Poleline Road is completely blocked at Lehigh Drive because a large tree fell. Police are urging motorists to avoid the area and use an alternate route.
Flood watches are in place throughout Northern California - including the Sacramento Valley, the delta, the foothills, San Joaquin Valley and Sierra Nevada, as heavy rains swamp roads and threaten to overtop rivers and creeks during a series of storms this week.
The Sacramento River is expected to swell to just a few feet below flood stage.
Tuesday's storm is whipping up strong winds with gusts topping 55 miles an hour throughout the region. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory in effect until noon Tuesday in the Sacramento area.
The stormy weather has also left some people in the dark Tuesday morning. The Sacramento Municipal Utility District reports nearly 850 customers are without power. More than 400 customers near the Executive Airport are affected, plus 200 in Arden, and almost 140 near Wilton. SMUD estimates the outages will be restored late Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, Sacramento Regional Transit says service on the Gold Line has been disrupted because of overhead wire damage at 59th Street. RT is using buses from 29th Street to Historic Folsom.
