Two people were killed Tuesday night after a wrong-way driver crashed into multiple vehicles on eastbound Interstate 80 at Northgate.
The crash blocked all lanes of traffic in the area. The California Highway Patrol says a woman driving a dark Ford Mustang sideswiped one car near Raley Boulevard before colliding head-on with another car in the fast lane at Northgate. Both drivers were killed on impact.
The Sacramento County Coroner is working on a toxicology report to determine if the driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol.
The CHP reported the wrong-way driver around 10 p.m. Tuesday night heading westbound in the eastbound lanes starting at Watt Avenue.
The freeway reopened just after midnight.
