Former Stockton Mayor Anthony Silva is in jail awaiting arraignment Monday afternoon on five felony charges.
Silva was arrested Sunday at San Francisco International Airport on his return from a vacation in Colombia. He is facing charges of embezzlement, grand larceny, and money laundering with bail set at $1 million.
Silva’s attorney N. Allen Sawyer says his arrest is connected with the non-profit Stockton Kids Club, which Silva oversaw along with a board of directors.
Sawyer says financial records were taken in a search, but they are still in the dark because of the secret grand jury investigation that prompted the arrest.
“The indictment came during a grand jury process, so they had this prior to the search warrant," Sawyer says. "So we’re trying to ascertain who the complaining witness is.”
Silva is also facing a misdemeanor charge in Amador County from an audio recording on his cellphone of a strip poker game and underage drinking at a youth camp.
