(AP) - Commuters faced slick roads as the second in a series of wet and cold spring storms brought thunder and the risk of lightning to much of California.
The National Weather Service says scattered thunderstorms Wednesday will douse greater Los Angeles, where numerous freeway crashes were reported amid low clouds and rain.
Southern California mountain communities could see below-freezing temperatures and snow as low as 4,000 feet.
To the north, up to 8 inches of snow is possible on the highest Sierra roads, including Donner Pass on Interstate 80 near Truckee.
Lightning and possible hail are expected as a band of rain hits the San Francisco Bay Area and the Central Valley.
A line of thunderstorms that moved through Sacramento starting Tuesday produced nearly 1.3 inches of rain in 24 hours.
