Unemployment in the Capital region dipped slightly last month thanks to job gains in healthcare and education.
February's jobless rate in the four-county Sacramento area (Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer and Yolo counties) was 5.1 percent. That was down from 5.3 percent in January. And it was down from a year ago, when February's unemployment rate was 5.5 percent.
The state Employment Development Department says two sectors led month over month and year over year job growth: health services and education.
Healthcare and social assistance accounted for 70 percent of the job growth with 1,400 jobs. Education services added 600 jobs.
Only two industries saw job losses in February: trade transportation and utilities and financial activities.
